2 adverts in totally different media on total opposite sides of the world look a bit the same!
So???
The public are never going to know, the creatives who made it probs didn't know. It's not like stuff melting is an idea that some Australian creative thought of.
While it smacks of similarity I do think that the beautiful tone and craft he has created for the Perrier ad is makes it its own.
I also agree that I have almost had enough of the 'done' discussions. How many people not in the ad world have seen the ads we all have. I am still getting emails telling me to look at the beautiful and clever ad for Honda that uses cogs and car bits!
On the Chip Shop Awards note, a director who shot a test ad on a shoestring budget for us (PSP), submitted it and it's been nominated. Not hugely surprising considering you can in fact create your own award category, but funny none-the-less.
Indeed, I don't want to make this another 'been done' post. For me, the interest is more about the incredible speed of accusation we're seeing nowadays. It used to be a couple of weeks, then a couple of days... now it's minutes.
Please don't try to tell me that somebody owns the creative rights to the 'melting'. Melting's been done a zillion times.
I even remember having a poster in my bedroom as a youth with a cartoon bloke....oh never mind here it is: http://www.leadpipeposters.com/images/1421.jpg
Whatever next? Not being allowed to use Stephen Fry for a v.o because someone else has?
That Perrier ad is brilliant, but the ending is shit. The cool tone just melts (Geddit??!!) away with the gaylord plunge into the pool.
Suggesting alternatives would make me look like a twat, but surely she could have just reached into the melted puddle of her fridge and brought out the unmelted Perrier to drink.
yay. and the nominations for d&ad go up tonight. but i already know that scamp's got two, one in press and one in posters, both for the cheerleaders ad.
I like Vodafone - if I could rule the world. Getting over the obvious Kwik Fit comparison, I think it's a really nice execution. I'm still not 100% that the idea works, but there's still something charming about the film. Prefer the Kwik Fit one to the other one - guy with the lip piercings.
If I Ruled The World's similarity to Kwik Fit is almost perverse. They could have had that bloke singing anywhere. Why in the kind of place where the staff do amazing things in another ad campaign.
Just seen that Vodafone was this week's turkey in Campaign. Pretty harsh I think. Campaign can be SO off the mark sometimes it hurts. They probably just wanted to rub BBH up the wrong way. YEAH THAT'S RIGHT - I KNOW YOU READ THIS BLOG CAMPAIGN - I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE.

Scamp didn't you judge the Chip Shop Awards? What was your favourite bit of work?
'Every Lidl helps' is genius and I really like the Sky Sports Viral.
Why no one did that at the time is beyond me.
@ jpandtem
Slavador Dali is a great shout.
I'm not too fussed what inspired the ad, I quite like it. Wonderfully shot.
Unless the ad is a blatant rip-off let's stay away from the been done before comments.

Good - we are all agreed.
The ad is good.
And not a rip off.

Yes, I was a judge at the Chip Shop Awards. And I did like that PSP viral very much. And 'Every Lidl Helps'.

Hey, if you walk past the pubs near Goodge Street there seem to be rather a lot of people from a local agency out celebrating.
It really evokes summer in the city.
Can we please talk about the Vodafone 'If I ruled the world' spot now please...
Of course we can. Don't forget to abide by the house rules though, if it was you that posted the earlier comment...
Never mind Vodaphone or 'melting', what about Hunter Joining TBWA? I'm offering evens Ed Morris is in Euro's within a month.
